These Shining Lives is a very powerful play; it is a symbol of female empowerment and the ability to empower other women in a patriarchal world.
The costumes are set to have a late 1920s silhouette. I like to make every decision a symbolic one. I leave subtle hints for the students and audience to analyze in my costumes: like dressing our protagonist in violet, which will contrast the radium green, to symbolize the danger these women are about to encounter.
